Island is a literary quarterly that publishes the very best contemporary writing – fiction, essays, memoir and poetry – as well as art by Tasmania’s most exciting creatives. It engages with pre-eminent writers and develops and promotes new voices.
Island provides a forum for readers and writers unavailable in other Australian media. It contributes to a literary culture which is creative, distinctive, cosmopolitan.
Grown in Tasmania, Island writes for the world.
Island accepts a variety of fiction, non-fiction, poetry and reviews, so I suggest you skim through the PDF guidelines attached below. There is an online form for submissions, and they generally accept prose from 2,500 to 5,000 words in length, and poetry up to 2 pages. Payment rates are negotiated, but a minimum of $100.
They also publish Islet, specifically for shorter works (up to 600 words for prose), paying $75 for short fiction and $50 for poems.
